NOTICE FOR ALL HOPE VALLEY BOWLING CLUB MEMBERS RETIREMENT OF GREENKEEPER MICKY T. |
All good things come to an end, and the same can be said about Mick’s retirement.
Mick has been our faithful greenkeeper for the last seventeen years. He has applied his skills, his expertise, and his seemingly boundless amount of energy into his endeavours to provide Hope Valley Bowling Club with greens that were the envy of many other clubs.
When Mick started his employment with the club, he was a mere spade and shovel type of guy, who could cut grass, but his claim was that he was willing to learn, and over the years, he has indeed learnt, and consequently he has evolved into a very competent greenkeeper.
His knowledge of the required chemicals, fungicides and fertilisers to control the health of our greens is second to none. Over the years, we as a club, could hold our heads up high when it came to the condition of our greens. Many visitors would often comment on the superb playing surfaces, unbeknown to them it took an enormous amount of work on Mick’s behalf to achieve these results.
Mick’s gregarious ways can be quite contagious, for instance whenever he was participating in a game of bowls you could hear him from four rinks away, and although you didn’t always know what it was he was saying, you had a sense that it was generally funny. The reality was he had a way of giving most people a bit of a lift, well, most of the time that is.
Mick has come to the end of a very colourful career as our greenkeeper, and we wish for him, to have a long and happy retirement, and trust and hope to see him around the club, enjoying a game of bowls. Thanks for the memories, Mick.
Jim Terrington.
To acknowledge Mick’s retirement, all club members are invited to a sausage sizzle and presentation to be held at the completion of the game on Wednesday 3rd July.
